When Energy Moves Through the Home: Supporting Ourselves and Our Animals Through Change

Recently, I had the opportunity to spend time with some animal companions who are moving through change in their lives.

Moments like these become a quiet reminder—
that change is not something we move through alone.

It’s something we experience together.
Human and animal.
Seen and unseen.
Spoken and felt.

And in those shared spaces, everyone is doing their best to adjust…
to process…
to roll with what is unfolding—even when it isn’t fully understood.

What We Feel Beyond Words

As I sat within these spaces, what stood out most wasn’t just what was happening on the surface.

It was what could be felt underneath it.

The way the room held a certain density.
Where emotions seemed to settle or linger.
The subtle physical sensations in the body.
The tone behind words—not just what was said, but how it was carried.

These layers are all part of the experience.

Each person.
Each animal.
Processing in their own way.

When Emotions Need Movement

One of the most supportive things we can do—
for ourselves and for the animals who share our space—
is to allow emotions to move.

Not fix them.
Not rush them.
Not suppress them.

Simply… allow them.

Naming what you’re feeling, or even just acknowledging
“I feel overwhelmed,”
“I feel tired,”
“I don’t fully understand what I’m carrying right now,”
creates space for that energy to begin shifting.

Because when emotions are expressed,
they move through us—
instead of staying stored within us.

When “Tired” Isn’t Just Tired

Sometimes what we label as tiredness
goes deeper than physical fatigue.

It can feel like:

  • Exhaustion that doesn’t fully lift with rest

  • A sense of being energetically drained

  • Lower energy than what feels natural for you

  • A quiet question of… what am I holding right now?

In shared environments—especially with animals—
energy doesn’t always stay contained to one being.

It moves.

It weaves.

It can pass from person → animal → person again
and even extend beyond those physically present.

Seeing the Threads

If we pause long enough,
we can sometimes begin to see the threads.

How one experience connects to another.
How emotions layer.
How what’s happening in one part of the home
touches everything else.

Not as something to fix—
but as something to gently witness.

A Practice: Release & Burn

When energy feels heavy, tangled, or hard to name,
a simple yet powerful practice can help create movement:

Release & Burn

  1. Write out everything you’re feeling
    – thoughts
    – emotions
    – words you haven’t spoken
    – anything sitting beneath the surface

  2. Don’t edit. Don’t filter. Let it all come through.

  3. When complete, safely burn the paper in a contained space.

This isn’t about the paper.
It’s about allowing energy to transform.

To move.
To release.
To shift out of your body and your field.

Simple Ways to Move Energy in the Moment

When a space—or your body—feels heavy, dense, or tense,
small, intentional shifts can create immediate relief:

  • Step outside, even for a few moments

  • Stand in the sunlight and let it touch your skin

  • Place a hand on your heart and take a few slow, steady breaths

  • Pause without needing to “do” anything

These moments of presence gently interrupt the buildup
and allow energy to reset.

A Final Reflection

Your animal companions are deeply aware of the environment they live in.

They feel what shifts.
They notice what’s unspoken.
They respond in ways that often reflect what’s moving through the home.

And just like us—
they benefit when energy is allowed to move, soften, and clear.

You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You don’t have to process everything perfectly.

Simply being present…
aware…
and open to allowing what’s there to move—
is already a powerful step.
