Joys: The Walk

For the pups in your life, some may love and increase their level of joy in the walk. There are those that this is their ultimate love language! A few I have met, this is what gets them excited! As a result it is often me jogging to keep up as he or she is so thrilled to be out there smelling the flowers and everything else too. Some the need for speed is getting you away from the house!

For many, this is the absolute best activity. And, if you are willing to be present with them - this is the cherry on top!

There have been those that didn’t think they wanted to be out for more than a walk around the block only to discover a few months later that 45 minutes was too short as they were enjoying the exploration. Some it just wasn’t an automatic love, but one they grew to love and even began facing their insecurities with people, kids, some other dogs, and even the rain.

With others, age shifted what the walk looked like with some going out every other day or three times a week. The pace changed to one they can do and it becomes about a new level of joy for them with just being asked to go, not being left out.

The joy of going on a walk can be 15 minutes, forty-five, an hour or yes for some it is that two-hour hike you take them on. It is all the new smells that tires them out as the result of experiencing a lot of the new. For many it is that 4am or pre-dawn summer adventure walk, others the post summer crisp morning jaunt and others that before bed outing that lights them up with joy.

The joy of a walk is about the new and old whether that is the routes, the beings seen, the scents, or anything else. It can be the fun at getting caught in the sprinklers as one runs across a grassy field, the lightness of energy felt or the act of playfulness that often is an aspect of the activity. It can be the joy in doing something they often love and sharing it with the beings they love, you!
